I dont like much, and I dont really mind the context. I can go anywhere from love/drama to suspense/horror. Im more interested in story line

Clannad, Clannad After story, The world only god knows, nurarihyon no mago, ao no excorcist, the money of soul and possibility control, Kanon, k-on, mahou sensei negima(i had to force myself to watch like half of it but some of it is pretty interesting), sora no otoshimono, steins gate, the melancholy of suzumiya haruhi(the anime was OK but the movie was godly!), to aru majutsu no index, yumekui merry(XD), zero no tsukaima(wasn't thaqt bad), hoshizora e kakeru hashi... oh well these are the only animes i can think of in 2 mins that were half to awesome.

i wanted to start gintama but them i looked at how many episodes there were and thout to myself, i'll save it for a day on summer break in case i get bailed on on a random day.

How much episodes was it?

It does not matter how many episode are there. as long you watch those 1st few ep to know about the characters. All episodes are just funny and not really related. More towards joke rather than battles. XD

So I could watch the first 10 to get to know the characters, and the last 10 and I would know what the whole show was about?

To know the characters, i think watch the 1st 10 episode is fine. But for last 10 episodes, they are just not related. Gintama is just comedy anime, dun have any goals like bleach or naruto. But sometimes they do have arcs so if you wan to watch randomly, better you start at the introduction of an arc. XD

They are just funny. They like to use DragonBall, Naruto, and other anime as reference. They can use one whole OVA talking about One Piece. lolz
